In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Bright round doors in summery hues dot the lush, grassy hills of Hobbiton like wildflowers. Behind each door, comfortably furnished burrows snake through the land, each home to a hobbit or a family of the little rosy-cheeked inhabitants of the Shire. Each hobbit hole is unique, expressing the personality of its inhabitants through colors, gardens, furniture and the rustic detritus of everyday life. Beneath the rich smials of Bagshot Row and the sprawling mansion of Bag End, Hill Lane winds its way through the folds of the lower slopes of the hill, home to some of Hobbiton’s humbler hobbit dwellings. Number 2A, with its graceful turquoise door, is one of these smaller but still beautiful holes. It is said that on a warm summer’s evening the hobbit who lives there can be seen enjoying a well-earned Southfarthing ale. Each individual dwelling, the Hobbit holes lend themselves beautifully to creative placement in your cupboard. With a flat back and a shallow depth of just 55mm, they can be placed on shelves, frames, mantelpieces and window boxes. This beautiful little environment is an exact miniature replica of the movie set that can be visited at Hobbiton in Matamata, New Zealand.
