Among the story threads that almost made it to the screen was a script version of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in which Arwen of Rivendell fought in the Battle of Helm's Deep. Costumes were made and props constructed, including an exquisitely designed helmet, which the elven maiden would find in the armories of Rohan. Daughter of the Elven Lord Elrond, Arwen was engaged to Aragorn, a mortal man raised in her father's house in Rivendell. Arwen's love for Aragorn went against Elrond's hopes that she would take the ship and leave Middle-earth with the rest of her family to sail to the West. There he would live for eternity with his family. By choosing to be with Aragorn and remain in the world of men, Arwen renounced her infinite elven grace, becoming mortal, like him; forever separated from her father and eternal relative beyond death. The film adaptations of JRR Tolkien's beloved books have gone through many changes in the multi-year journey from page to screen. One of the story threads that underwent changes during production was Arwen's role. In one version of the script Arwen fought in the Battle of Helm's Deep. This storyline continued long enough during production for costumes and props to be made, but the script was ultimately rewritten to more closely align with Arwen's storyline in the books.
