This event triggered James' mutation, and he used his claws to kill Thomas. Before he died, Logan revealed that he was James' biological father. Rejected by his mother, James ran away and began using the name Logan. Born a mutant, his powers include heightened senses, retractable claws, and a great regenerative ability (called a healing factor). His regenerative power slows his aging. Logan was a test subject in a government experiment (the Weapon X program) in which his skeleton and claws were coated with Adamantium (a fictional indestructible metal). With no memory of his past, he adopted the codename Wolverine and became one of the X-Men's most prominent heroes.
