The mighty mûmakil, beasts so massive their legs resembled the trunks of ancient trees; their tusks were like mountain roots torn from the earth. On their broad backs were great howdahs of twisted vines and gnarled bones, bristling with archers and spearmen, fierce war banners snapping in the wind.
