Lilo & Stitch, a Walt Disney Animation Studios film, premiered in 2002, centers on two characters. He initially uses Lilo to avoid capture by the Inter-Galactic Federation, but he and the girl develop a close bro through the Hawaiian concept of Ohan A, or extended family Ed, causing Stitch to reconsider his destructive purpose in order to keep his newfound family together. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards ceremony in 2003, its success helped make the film a highlight of Disney's post-recession era in the 2000s, spawning a franchise that includes three Direct-to-Video sequels and three TV series.
