    Product description

Bred in centuries past to be weapons of war for Middle-earth, the great worms were enormous serpentine creatures, cloaked in scaly skins and possessed a vicious intelligence. Within, they combined the cunning of mind-beings and the ferocity of wild beasts. Long horns, bladed claws, and the wicked malice of countless teeth. Dragons' keen, piercing eyes had always lived, their tangy scent and their elongated bodies had grown to a size rivaled by any other creature to walk the earth. Some were winged, able to take to the skies and travel great distances like the wind. Others burned with fiery wrath within, spewing conflagration and death from their outstretched jaws at will. And in some, these abilities were combined with terrifying effect... In the years that followed, only a few remained, mostly sequestered in the scorched lands of the withered moor, far to the north and nestled between the prodding arms of the gray mountains. Their hunger was great, and a lust for violence burned in their bellies. When word of the riches of Erebor reached their ears, the greatest of the fire dragons that lived in Middle-earth took wing and hurried south. Smaug was his name; a vast gold-and-red monster whose poverty was matched only by his pride. His coming was like a hurricane of fire; the cities of Dale and Erebor fell swiftly before his irresistible advance; countless dwarves and men were consumed in his flames or destroyed by tooth and claw. The inhabitants scarcely realized what calamity was befalling them as they died or were displaced. Then the great dragon, who called himself the Magnificent, seized the riches of the lonely mountain and settled down to lie coiled over his hoard. From now on, Erebor became a place of terror, and all that surrounded the lands became barren, shriveled, and desolate; the Desolation of Smaug. Digitally sculpted in exquisite detail by long-time Weta sculptor Daniel Cockersell, Smaug The Magnificent will make a stunning addition to your collection of Weta Workshop miniature statues. It takes hundreds of hours to design, sculpt, craft, model, and paint the prototype for each new piece of Middle-earth. Whether it's a prop replica, a beautiful environment, or an iconic character, we treat our collectibles with the same level of care and attention to detail we bring to our film work. Note: The images are of a pre-production prototype. Each sculpture is hand-painted and minor variations will occur. Dimensions: 15 x 20 x 13 cm
