Oddjob is the servant of Auric Goldfinger, the James Bond antagonist in the 1964 film GOLDFINGER. Oddjob is a formidable character, extremely strong, skilled in martial arts and in possession of a deadly weapon, his black bowler hat. THE REPLICA Factory Entertainment's Oddjob Hat Replica was created after careful study of the original SFX hat with embedded brim from the EON Productions archives, as well as reference photographs and original production drawings. The original archival hat was measured by hand and from these measurements a 3D model was created to create wooden molds, or “forms,” which were then used to press and stretch the wool felt into the correct shapes. Historically, bowler hats were designed to provide some protection to the gamekeepers' heads, so they were made of thick, durable material. The team at Factory Entertainment duplicated this, commissioning a special ultra-heavy felt material that was even more durable than its 1960s predecessors. The metal edges of the original props were only supposed to stick to the hats for brief takes. The Factory Entertainment team wanted their replica to last a long time, and after experimenting with many different options and prototypes, they developed a method that involved both mechanical and chemical welding to invisibly and permanently bond the two dissimilar materials together. The Oddjob Hat Replica also features the following screen-accurate details: - Black trim ribbon and a satin hat band on the outside. - A satin lining and a leather band inside. - Laser cut brushed stainless steel metal ring. - Hat size: 7 3/8" (58 cm). Each replica includes a museum-style mirrored display base with an acrylic cover, specially designed magnetic mounts, and an individually numbered metal plaque featuring each piece's unique edition number and a COA (certificate of authenticity) booklet.
