As captain, he was granted a special soul and the Lion Ring by the Lord of Sunlight. Wearing golden armor imbued with the power of lightning, he was made to resemble a lion. Ornstein's spear was said to be able to split a boulder in two. Using his spear, Ornstein was left to guard the cathedral of Anor Londo alongside the executioner Smough after the gods fled. At some point, Ornstein left his post guarding the cathedral to search for the Nameless King. It is unknown how Ornstein survived the battle against the Chosen Undead, but he eventually made his way to Archdragon Peak, where the Nameless King is said to be.
