Born from a comet filled with symbiotic lifeforms and discovered by a space probe from a bioengineering company called The Life Foundation, an alien fuses with investigative journalist Eddie Brock to survive, creating the monstrous being that appears as venom. As part of an invasion force searching for new worlds for the symbiotes to ingest and feed on, the creature and Brock ultimately form a deep bond and together they decide to help protect Earth from the invading alien species. After completing their mission, both remain secretly connected and committed to protecting the city by eliminating criminals. Played on the big screen by Tom Hardy, the film version of Venom retains the creature's core characteristics, but differs from his comic book origins, where the character's origins are tied to Spider-Man. The alien species known as Klyntar emerged in 1984 as the arachnid hero's alien costume, but became Venom in 1988 in the art of the legendary Todd McFarlane.
